My trailer and poster work together this is because they both signifgy what the movie is about, this way it makes a coherent advertising component. The effectiveness of my trailer and movie poster working together will mainly be judged by the release or launch of Deranged, this is because if the two worked well together and was advertised right the cinema viewings would be high as the marketing was successful and got the point of the story across to its target audience. The main product and the ancillary texts are both produced by the film distributor, it is their task to identify and deliver the largest possible audience for every film. The image on the left is a picture of Lord Puttnam who is the president of the film distributors assoication, and is also a succesful british film producer to add to his succesful film career he was also chief executive officer at Columbia pictures. The role of the film distributor is to first find out more about the movie that is being produced, they need to find out things like its genre and target audience and also need to think about where the film is going to be distributed depending on where it will be most succesful. There are various sources that they use such as third party sale agents or studios or even the production companies. The main thing with the current market is that the distributors need to get people willing to part with their hard earned cash to buy a ticket to see the movie, as nowadays a lot of people like to download the movie as its free instead of having to spend a small fortune at the cinemas. Another factor the industry needs to look at is what other movies are being released, as there could be two similar movies being released at once which would cause compeittion between the two, and another thing is the time of year whether it is seasonal or when the movie may have more viewings like when the children are off for the summer holidays they will need something to do this could include going to the movies. Next the distributors will create a marketing campaign for the movie, this means they gain more publicity this could be having interviews with the stars of the movie on MTV, or either by using magazines where they feature the latest gossip and also will featuire a couple of pages on the movie itself as well as a front page. Some times childrens movies they will promote themselves by using McDonalds as the children will buy a happy meal, and so will recieve a free toy with the meal this is all about gaining awareness and interest so the target audience will go watch the movie this
is known as merchandising. Other marketing strategies could be using a film poster that are displayed on buses, bulletin boards, the train or even on the internet, and trailers, websites, behind the scenes, screenings, set visits, meeting the stars, film festivals and more. There are three main key features for marketing this is advertising, publicity, and promotion, because if a distributor doesn't follow these guide lines then when it comes to the movie being launched it cinema viewings may but very low which means the movie company will make a loss. Individual distributors may release any number amount of films, some times some just release one or two a year or some of them release as many as twenty five to thirty a year. And a typical week at the cinema in the UK see's around ten new films released a week, with more than 500 releases a year and they are all competing for screen time, media space, and audience interest so we can tell that the market is very competitive and involves a lot of work to make the film successful. So do this we need to look at the target audience this to achieve these results this would involve, age group, gender, lifestyles, social networks, and also media consumption, this also gives the distributors a idea on where the marketing needs to occur.
My main product and poster are part of a advertising campign to try and gain awareness to a new movie being released soon, this is what a film distribution company would do if a upcoming movie was being prodcued. Though to help with marketing strategies the movie would need to have its own website this could be something like http://www.watchderangednow.co.uk/, this way the interested audience could find out more information about the movie. The movie could be promoted on sites such as facebook, msn, flickr, twitter, the international movie database, also on the MTV channels that are found on sky as they are very popular with our target audience. There are other strategies such as the poster being featured on bill boards, trains, buses, the local cinemas, and also could be used in film shops such as blockbuster or love film to promote it. Or youtube have started doing more where before you can watch the video they have adverts such as teaser trailer, this would be good for Deranged this is because our target audience use youtube a lot. And if the teaser trailer is advertised right then the consumer will talk about it, this way it will also gain recognition by word of mouth. One way of keeping typical conventions is by having the main protagonist (the villian) in the centre of the poster, this is because he was the main charcater in the horror trailer. And also both of the pictures relate because they villian is covered in blood, and also looking deranged like it suggests in the title of the movie.
The image on the left which is my poster I have used, consists of a deranged weird look so suggest a psychological horror that when we done our research it showed what our target audience wanted. In both of the images it conists of red in the poster it has the writing written in red, and also both of the images conists of quiet a bit of blood this means that the genre of the movie is horror. The main image of the protagonist that I used for my poster is the main appeal for the movie, they both are cohernet because of the theme, genre, credits and the stars that are featured in the movie as it's a way of promoting the movie. Another factor that is coherent is that the text I have kept in a similar format with the red bold text, this is because the text stands out more and especially with the bold font.
It also suggest's by having this type of text that the movie is of a horror genre, this is because of the blood red colour that has been used in the text. This is important to distributions companies this is because it keeps to the sale format, so that the target audience can recongnise the movie a lo mor easier as it has similar factors. The interitles that we used in the teaser trailer also goes with my poster as I added to the title of my poster some white hints, this way it can fit in with the trailer as well. I think that my poster and main product are both cohernet as they have similar qualities, and so this makes them a successful marketing campign.
I also used for the background the the forest location in my magazine cover, this is because this is where most of the teaser trailer is set and also is one of the key conventions to the horror trailer by having a isolated location. The still image of the main protagonist is used as well in the horror trailer, as well as the victim being dragged along, these both represent the teaser trailer well because theese are what the viewers will remeber the most out of the trailer this is why they are good to use. In my poster and movie magazine I wanted everything to link together, I first started off by having the main character as the main image on my advertising campaign this way the target audience could easily recgnise the movie. I noticed when looking at previous horror advertising campaigns they stayed mainly to the main character or the biggest star, as a lot of people will go and watch a movie due to their favourite star being involved in the film. Distributors will use every angle in the market they can to promote the movie especially if they are against 9 other movies being released in the week.
This answer mainly focuses on how you have designed your poster. This is not what the question is asking you to do. You need to explore how your poster and your trailer work together to create a coherent advertising component for your movie marketing campaign. You also need to show that you understand the role of a film distributor in movie marketing and how a distributor would try to generate publicity such as getting the film on the front cover of a movie magazine. You should include images of your poster and stills from your trailer which show that both are working to create a coherent advertising image for your film.
